Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains a number of luxuries on top of the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
